In January of 2011, The Glacier, the student newspaper of Moraine Valley Community College, decided to update the look of the paper. A team led by myself managed the redesign for the paper. We had three main objectives. First, we wanted to visually modernize the paper and make it feel updated and new. We also wanted to simplify a design that had become cluttered and confusing. Finally, we wanted to ensure visual continuity between print and web content.
The redesign won several awards. In April of 2011, The Glacier’s website received first place for Best Website by the Illinois Community College Journalism Association (ICCJA). The site was also nominated for a 2011 Pacemaker for Best Website by the Associated College Press.
